No kilt after all

So, I won't be making a kilt afterall, and now after doing much research I'm feeling like that is quite a releif.  Kilts are a doozy with all those pleats.  Anyhow, I did have the oportunity to make an awesome shirt to go with the kilt.  Take a look at my past projects to check it out.

Coming up next...

I just found out some good news, my husband will be an apprentice with Brigadoon Brewery this season at the Texas Renaissance Festival. Congrats Ruston!  While that is good news for him, it also means more costume work for me, hurray!  I'm excited to begin on his costume for this season.  The brewery is a Scottish brewery, so I will be creating my very first kilt.  I am very happy, as I haven't had the opportunity to create one before, so this will be an awesome new challenge for me.  I'm on the look out for good instructions and patterns if anyone has some they'd like to share.

Field trip!

I decided to take a field trip today to one of my all time fabric stores, High Fashion Fabrics.
It's an amazing store full of thousands of fabrics dedicated to garment sewing, but don't be upset that they didn't include home interior fabrics because right across the street is High Fashion Home.  Which is equally as awesome but not what I was interested in today.
I ventured downtown today in search of some pretty jersey knit and a bit of lace to make a scarf for a friend's birthday. I found the knit but was disappointed with the lace. I just don't truly understand how I couldn't find what I wanted....maybe I was just being too picky. After all just look what I had to work with.
I could only sneak one picture because they really don't like you taking photographs in the store, but you can get a feel for what's inside by this quick snap shot.  They have the most beautiful silks and laces, and silk laces.  Right in the forefront of the picture are a few bolts of bridal lace, the one on top was $119 a yard!  I would LOVE to get my hands on a bit of that.

If you're ever in Houston, you should definitely take a trip to High Fashion Fabrics, or High Fashion Home, or both if you can swing it...you'll be in for a real treat.

Happy Sewing!

Superheroes

Yesterday while playing around on Pinterest, I came across this adorable pattern for superhero capes.  I believe I see a few of these in my future, as I have a friend with an adorable 3 year old little boy who is madly in love with superheroes.

Search around on Vanilla Joy's blog while you're there...she has some really cute patterns and ideas.

Pictures

I posted some pictures of costumes I have created in the past.  My absolute favorite is my Anne Boleyn costume that I made in 2011.  I am very bummed that it's a little too snug for me now, even with the corset to cinch my waist in.  I guess that's what turning 30 does to you....it moves things around.  Ha!  Anyway, it's still my favorite and I squeeze into it when I can.  I have a few more costumes to photograph and upload so I'll work on that some more tonight.  For now, enjoy these.

More to come

Hello web,

Now that I've got my first post up, I will soon begin to add some pictures of other costumes I have worked on in the past, and those I am currently working on.

More to come soon!

Inspiration

Inspiration!

It has struck, and I am happy.  I was surfing around on the web today, checking out new and upcoming movies and I happened across this:

http://disney.go.com/thewizard/?cmp=wdsmp_ozg_url_thewizard

Oz the Great and Powerful by Disney.  Just take a look at the costumes, how fun and original.  They look nothing like the original Wizard of Oz costumes and I think they're fabulous.  I can't wait to start sewing....I haven't decided for sure which I will create but I think I'm leaning towards Theodora, I really like her coat.
Of course, I could always go with the old standard...the wicked witch.
Let me know what you think!
